Apple says it supports 1 million developer jobs in India now

Share

Apple started producing iPhones in India in 2017 and “supports hundreds of thousands of jobs” via manufacturing patterns and local component manufacturers.

Apple, which is celebrating 25 years in India by launching its first flagship store in Mumbai followed by another in Delhi this week, has announced that it now supports 1 million developer jobs in the country. Apple said App Store payouts to developers in the country have “more than tripled since 2018”.

CEO Tim Cook said, “At Apple, our mission is to enrich lives and empower people around the world. India has such a beautiful culture and incredible energy, and we’re excited to build on our long-standing history — supporting our customers, investing in local communities, and working together to build a better future with innovations that serve humanity.”

Given the importance of the market, Cook is expected to be in India to open the first Apple Stores, though the company has not yet confirmed his visit.

In 2017, Apple set up the iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, which handholds developers to help take their apps to the next level. The accelerator has so far hosted sessions for more than 15,000 developers helping them build on ideas and gain an edge in the market.

Apple started producing iPhones in India in 2017 and “supports hundreds of thousands of jobs” via manufacturing patterns and local component manufacturers. As part of Apple’s commitment to be fully carbon neutral for its supply chain and products by 2030, all active Indian manufacturing supply chain partners are committed to using only clean energy for their Apple operations.
