  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the first in the world to feature Corning Gorilla Armor protection.

Samsung Galaxy S24 series is the latest flagship offering and customers can purchase the phones from stores now. As is the case with all new flagships, the phone is put to a durability test to see how well it holds up through extreme tests, courtesy of Zack from JerryRigEverything.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra durability test

  • The durability test, as usual, starts with the scratch test.
  • We see the phone getting scratched at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale but here’s the interesting part. Phones usually have deeper grooves at level 7 but this time, we just have scratch marks. This means that Gorilla Armor is the toughest one out there.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra produces deeper grooves at level 8, which could make it the first in the smartphone world.
  • In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro Max got scratchedat level 6, with deeper grooves at level 7. This is despite having a Ceramic Shield layer on the front.
  • The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen was able to recognise the finger and unlock the phone every single time.
  • The titanium frame isn’t scratch-proof, so we see scratches throughout the chassis. Samsung says the volume rocker and power buttons are not using titanium material. They could be aluminium. During the burn test, the screen on the S24 Ultra lasts for about 30 seconds before turning white. The pixels don’t fully recover.

Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra also survived the bend test. While there was a tiny flex during extreme bending, there was certainly no cracking. In a similar test, the glass back of the iPhone 15 Pro Max almost immediately cracks. This was shocking considering the premium nature of the phone. Apple uses a Grade 5 Titanium frame on the 15 Pro models. The Samsung Galaxy 24 Ultra has a premium titanium frame, similar to the Apple iPhone 15 Pro lineup. However, the company doesn’t mention which grade of titanium it uses. The phone also features the first-in-the-world Corning Gorilla Armor glass protection, which is claimed to be the toughest glass yet.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra dropped: here’s what happened

  • YouTuber PBKreviews dropped the Galaxy S24 Ultra from waist height. In the first fall itself, the phone’s screen gets a minor crackin the top right corner.
  • In the next fall, the top left corner also gets slightly scraped and in the subsequent falls too, the titanium frame gets scraped at various places. However, it suffers from no major damage.
  • So, the tester concludes that the titanium frame does its job but Samsung could’ve used a better glass on the front. However, the Gorilla Glass Armor in use is said to be 3x better at drop resistance and 4x better at scratch resistance than its competitors.
  • To Samsung’s merit, the display functions fine even after repeated drops and no noticeable damages were on the rear side. The screen also managed to stay scratch-free even after putting and scrubbing sand and gravel on it.
  • Moreover, the phone mostly landed facing the screen even though the YouTuber tried to drop the phone from different sides. So, it wasn’t a very methodical test and the results should only be taken accordingly.
  • In comparison, the back glass on the iPhone 15 Pro series shattered in a drop test by EverythingApplePro. The titanium frame showed scratches and the screen also nicked when dropped from waist-height.
