Meta Quest 3

Meta Quest 3: In the world of XR (extended reality) headsets, Meta is ahead of the competition with its vast range of products. A new report from Bloomberg suggests that Meta is also working on a next-generation XR device, which will be thinner and lighter than its predecessor.

Meta Quest 3: Mark Gurman reports that Meta is testing a new extended reality headset—Quest 3, code-named Eureka. According to the report, it is lighter and thinner than the Quest 2 and features a fabric-like material on the sides, which should make it feel more premium.

He also reports that the Quest 3 has a new front with “three vertical pill-shaped sensors,” and two of these pills located on the left and the right are said to house a colour video pass-through camera along with a standard camera, and the middle pill is said to house a depth camera.

Gurman also suggests that on the front lower sides, the Quest 3 has a tracking camera, and the bottom of the device houses a button, volume rocker, and a wheel to adjust the headset’s IPD. The image quality is said to be similar to the Quest 2, despite packing higher resolution. However, the video passthrough is reported to be speedier on the upcoming Quest 3.

The Meta Quest 3 is also reported to be powered by the second-generation Snapdragon XR2 chip. Just like the current model, the Quest 3 is said to come with right and left-hand remotes, which have been redesigned for easy navigation with support for in-air hand tracking. However, the Quest 3 being a mid-range device, is said to miss out on features like eye and head tracking.

It is also reported that Meta hasn’t finalized the price of the Quest 3. However, it is reported to cost a bit more than $400 priced Quest 2 and is likely to cost around $500. Apple is also gearing up for the launch of its very first mixed-reality headset. However, considering the leaked prices of both devices, the Quest 3 and the RealityPro are likely to be positioned at different audiences.
