Motorola Razr 40 series

Motorola Razr 40: Motorola has announced the launch of the Motorola Razr 40 series in India soon. The new Razr 40 family includes two phones, namely the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra, which will be similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Oppo Find N2 Flip. While Motorola launched a folding phone in India in 2020, the old-gen model was highly expensive and not versatile. Motorola has been experimenting with Razr phones globally for the last two years. The Razr 40 series could be promising if priced right in India.

In a press release, Motorola notes the new Razr 40 series will retail via Amazon, Reliance Digital stores and other leading retail outlets in India. The devices will also be available on the Motorola India website. The company is yet to share its launch date, though it could be in July. Several leaks point out that Samsung and OnePlus are also gearing up to launch new folding smartphones next month. 2023 has already seen the entry of new players in the segment, such as Tecno and Google.

The India-specific Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra could be similar to the global iterations, which launched earlier this month. As the name suggests, the Razr 40 Ultra will include more advanced features. The phone includes a bigger cover screen than the vanilla Razr 40. The cover display is much larger than what both Samsung and Oppo offer. It offers a viewing area of 3.6 inches with a 144Hz refresh rate. In its unfolded form, users can enjoy a viewing area of 6.9 inches — the same as the Motorola Razr 40.

Both Motorola smartphones have dual cameras on the outside, though the specifications differ. The Ultra model includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with support for optical image stabilisation (OIS)and a 13-megapixel secondary ultra-wide-angle camera. The vanilla Razr 40 has a 64-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera. Both phones include a 32-megapixel selfie camera, though users can use the outer cameras to take selfies and preview the image on the cover display.

Motorola Razr 40: In terms of performance, the chipsets on board are also different. The Razr 40 Ultra includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, while the Razr 40 carries a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. The addition of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 on the regular Razr 40 may result in a relatively affordable price, which many customers would appreciate.

For perspective, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Oppo cost Rs 89,999 for the base 128GB variant. Motorola’s flagship devices have traditionally been more affordable in India. It will be interesting to see how the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra would be priced in the country.
