Rohit Sharma: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has overtaken former South African batter AB de Villiers to hit the most sixes in ODIs in a calendar year. He has been in exemplary form this ODI World Cup and is one of the highest run-scorers in this tournament. He has the best strike rate among the top five run-scorers this tournament. Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India are trying to win their third ODI World Cup.

Rohit smacked a six over long-on off Colin Ackermann in the seventh over to bring up the record. He now has 59 sixes in 2023 in ODIs, while de Villiers had 58 in the year 2015.

Rohit took over the captaincy duties from Virat Kohli in 2021-22 and after a lull over the last year, has been in brilliant form this year. He has scored 1148 runs in 24 ODI innings at a stunning average of 54.66. Besides 59 sixes, he has hit 122 fours, two centuries and eight half-centuries.

Notably, Rohit’s average in ODIs is better as a captain than the time when he was not a skipper. As a player, he has 8662 runs in 29 innings at an average of 47.85. As a captain, he has scored 1940 runs in 42 innings at an average of 57.

In 26 World Cup innings, Rohit has scored 1468 runs at an average of 63.82. He has been providing India with aggressive starts in all their innings, something that has aided the middle-order batters to put up big scores or chase them down with a strong platform in place.
