14th Gen Intel Core HX

Intel has officially announced 14th Gen Intel Core HX processors for gaming laptops. Unlike the 14th Gen Intel Core Ultra series of processors, the new HX lineup lacks NPU (neural processing unit) and is primarily focused on performance. Gaming laptops, powered by the new 14th Gen Intel Core HX processors with NVIDIA/AMD GPUs will soon be available in select markets from major brands like Alienware, Acer, Asus, Razer, and more.

The 14th Gen Intel Core HX series of processors are an upgraded version of 13th Gen (Raptor Lake Refresh) processors with slightly higher CPU clock speeds and are more in line with the 14th Gen Intel Core desktop processors rather than the 14th Gen Intel Core Ultra processor (Meteor Lake). According to the numbers shared by Intel, the Intel Core i9-14900HX is faster than AMD’s flagship mobile chip — Ryzen 9 7945HX in gaming.

The company has announced five new CPUs under the 14th Gen Intel Core HX lineup of gaming laptop CPUs, which includes the flagship Intel Core i9-14900HX, a 24-core CPU with a boost turbo frequency of 5.8 GHz with support for up to 192 GB of RAM. There is also the Intel Core i7-14700HX, a 20-core CPU. Compared to the 13th Gen model (Core i7-13700HX) it offers two additional E cores, which should result in enhanced multi-core performance and the higher CPU clock speeds also result in enhanced single-thread performance and gaming.

Besides the new gaming laptop chips, Intel has also launched new entry-level 14th Gen desktop processors (non-K variants) with a slightly lower clock speed and a lower suggested TDP, which includes Intel Core i9-14900 with 24-core CPU and 65W base TDP and Intel Core i7-14700 a 20 core CPU. Similarly, there are also SKUs like Intel Core i13-14100 and Intel processor 300, which are meant for entry-level PC builds.
