Tecno Phantom V Flip

The Phantom V Fold, a luxury sub-brand of Tecno, was the company’s first foldable phone. The Phantom V Flip, the company’s first flip foldable, was just launched. Phantom still offers competitive pricing even though it caters to the premium market; the V Fold was the cheapest entrance into its sector and the V Flip is no different.

Can the company also democratize flip-flap phones? Let’s look at the specifications first. When folded, the phone has dimensions of 88.77 x 74.05 x 14.95mm; when unfolded, they are 171.72 x 74.05 x 6.95mm. The display and cameras can be supported by the hinge at any angle between 30° and 150°.

A 6.9″ panel with FHD+ resolution (22:9) serves as the screen. It is an LTPO AMOLED panel with a 360Hz touch sampling rate and a 10-120hz refresh rate. The external display is almost equally crucial for flips, and Tecno’s designers made an intriguing decision here.

A smartwatch-like 1.32″ circular display is present on the Tecno Phantom V Flip. The device is dubbed “The Planet” and has amusing features like Tmojis, 3D interactive virtual pets, and more. It has an AMOLED panel with 352ppi pixel density. However, the peculiar shape severely restricts what may run on this display—certainly not full-fledged Android apps.

The “asteroid belt-shaped” camera array revolves around The Planet. Tecno is really proud of this one because it sports a 64 MP RGBW sensor with 0.8 mm pixels in the main module as opposed to the Motorola Razr 40’s 64 MP RGB sensor’s 0.7 mm pixels. The 13 MP ultrawide camera, which can function in tandem with the primary camera using the Dual-Camera Fusion technology, is also located on the back. Of course, the primary camera may be used for selfies, but the phone also includes a 32MP camera and the first dual-LED flashlight found in a flip phone.

The Dimensity 8050, essentially a relaunch of the 1300 and 1200, powers the Tecno Phantom V Flip. It has 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. The phone’s 4,000mAh battery supports 45W Flash Charging, which can charge it from 0% to 50% in 15 minutes and from 100% in 45 minutes.

The Tecno Phantom V Flip will cost 50,000 in India, according to Tecno. According to our sources, the phone will cost €700 in Europe and $650 in other markets. See our comprehensive review for additional information.

Let’s look at the rivals to the Tecno Phantom V Flip. The Motorola Razr 40 sports a 4,200mAh battery with 30W wired and 5W wireless charging with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 CPU, which is less powerful than the Dimensity. A 32MP selfie camera and 64+13MP modules on the rear make up the camera arrangement, which is remarkably comparable. Again using FHD+, the internal display is a 6.9″ 144Hz LTPO panel, and the exterior display is a 1.5″ line display. The Razr 40 costs €900/60,000 for an 8/256GB variant, which is still substantially more than the Tecno’s €700/50,000.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, which is the most commonly available flip foldable and is probably going to be the best-selling foldable of 2023, is the other big elephant in the room. This one has a little 3,700mAh battery and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (50% charge in 30 minutes with 25W cable and 15W wireless charging). The exterior display is the far more practical 3.4″ panel that supports all Android apps, while the inner display is a 6.7″ 120Hz panel (FHD+). In terms of cameras, there is a 10MP selfie camera inside and a dual 12MP arrangement outdoors. The Z Flip5 costs €1,200/$100,000, but is frequently available for far less. The Samsung is undoubtedly a superior phone, but even with a good bargain, it will cost you a lot more money.
