With the launch of the Vivo V29 Pro, Vivo has expanded its lineup of mid-range Android smartphones. The Vivo V29 Pro, as its name implies, is the Vivo V29 that has been upgraded with significant upgrades to the SoC and camera system.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset, which also powers the Vivo V27 Pro, is the foundation of the Vivo V29 Pro, which is further enhanced with 8/12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Additionally, the phone boasts a 4,600 mAh battery that supports fast charging at 80 W FlashCharge, for which Vivo includes an adaptor with the device.
The Vivo V29 Pro has a glass sandwich design with a curved front screen and a glossy glass back. The Vivo V29 Pro has a fairly conventional design except from the incorporation of magnetic particles that paint mountain outlines on the back of the Himalayan Blue edition.
The Vivo V29 Pro’s 6.78-inch AMOLED display has a 1,260×2,800 resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a 1,000 Hz touch sampling rate. The screen is HDR10+ certified and sports a peak brightness of 1,300 nits.
The presence of a dedicated “Portrait” camera in the Vivo 29 Pro, in addition to the SoC, is the primary distinction between it and the Vivo V29. The portrait camera features a dual-pixel focusing system, a 12 MP Sony IMX663 sensor, an f/1.98 aperture, and 2X magnification. According to GSMArena, the zoom enables the portrait photographer to focus on subjects that are up to two meters distant.
The Vivo V29 Pro has a portrait camera in addition to a 50 MP primary camera with a Sony IMX766 sensor. The primary camera features an f/2.0 aperture lens and optical image stabilization (OIS). A third ultrawide camera with an 8 MP resolution and a circular Smart Aura Light, which Vivo claims is now 36% brighter than the previous version, round out the configuration on the back.
Additionally, a 50 MP selfie camera with a 90° wide Field of View is located on the front. Thankfully, the selfie camera has AutoFocus, which the recently unveiled and more expensive Google Pixel 8 does not.
A dual-sim capability, 5G, Bluetooth 5.3, and an in-display fingerprint sensor are other noteworthy specifications.
The Vivo V20 Pro will cost INR39,999 (US$480) for the 8 GB/256 GB SKU when it becomes available. The price of the 12 GB SKU with the same amount of storage is INR42,999, which, at the time of writing, equals US$517. This places the Vivo V29 Pro squarely in the fiercely competitive mid-range market with devices like the latest Galaxy S23 FE and Google Pixel 7a.
