A bending phone for your wrist? 2023

A bending phone

A bending phone: Unexpectedly, foldable smartphones are now widely available. At one point in time, technology was thought to be innovative and possibly unworkable, but as evidenced by the recent releases of the Oppo Find N3 Flip, Google Pixel Fold, and OnePlus Open, every brand is now producing a foldable or flipping smartphone. But one technology that hasn’t yet made it to the mass market is bending smartphones, which we’ve only seen in prototypes.

Motorola displays a prototype phone.

Lenovo-owned Motorola unveiled the most recent version of its prototype bending smartphone at the Lenovo Tech World 2023. For those who do not know, Motorola originally demonstrated a bending phone at the 2016 Tech World event. The gadget has remained mostly hidden since then. However, Motorola now used the occasion to unveil the new idea and showcase a few of its functions.

The gadget has an FHD+ pOLED display that, when folded flat, extends to a full 6.9-inch panel, according to the manufacturer. The display real estate is reduced to 4.6 inches when it is adjusted into a self-standing position, though. Is it possible to wrap this bending smartphone over your wrist as well?for a mobile solution that functions similarly to the Motorola Razr+’s external display in order to stay connected?

A bending phone: A cloth appears to be on the back of the device in the press release image, possibly to make it more pleasant to use for extended periods of time.

In both the smartphone and PC categories, Motorola claims that “this adaptive display concept further builds upon the display and mechanical innovations from our foldable and rollable devices.”

When might it be released?

A bending phone: Even while Motorola’s bending concept was impressive, it was still a prototype, and not all of them make it to production. Foldable cellphones have been around for about five years, but they have only recently become popular. It is therefore likely that at least a few years will pass before we see bendy cellphones placed on wrists.
