Qualcomm has announced its newest entry-level smartphone processor — 4 Gen 2. Fabbed using a 4nm process, this is said to be the most power-efficient chip in the segment which also offers several AI-related technologies such as enhanced background noise removal, improved low light camera performance, and enhanced connectivity for gaming and streaming.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is fabbed by Samsung using a 4nm process and this chip has an octa-core CPU configuration with two performance cores with 2.2 GHz clock speed based on Arm Cortex-A77 architecture, six efficient cores based on Arm Cortex-A55 architecture. It also gets a new Adreno GPU, which is better than the one on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chip.
Other prominent features of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC include a new Snapdragon X61 5G model RF with up to 2.5Gbps download speed and it also supports global 5G multi-SIM support with support for sub 6 GHz band and 4×4 MIMO support for enhanced wireless networking capabilities.
The chip supports up to UFS 3.1 storage module, LPDDR5x type RAM and is also compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology. Additionally, the GPU on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip can drive displays with up to 120Hz refresh rate and it can also support up to 108 MP cameras with up to 1080p 60fps video recording.
Qualcomm has confirmed that Redmi and Vivo are the first set of brands to launch devices featuring the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC. Similarly, during the presentation, the brand also confirms that the 5G phones featuring the new Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC will be priced at around Rs 15,000 in India.
